Free Pattern - Thick and Quick Chain Scarf

Need a last minute gift! This baby works up in less than 30 minutes. You'll probably spend more time trying to decide what color to make it. After seeing a ton of t-shrit scarf diy's on pinterest I though I need to come up with a crochet version. So here is my take on a Chain Scarf! I love these!!! Enjoy!

Thick & Quick Chain Scarf

NOTES:
*I try to make sure the chain doesn't twist when joining but it's not entirely necessary for this pattern.

*Be sure not to sl st to tightly because you will be working into those stitches.

*Round 1 measures about 50 inches

*Other options - If you want it shorter or longer just decrease or increase the amount of chains each row. I separated each row by decreasing 5 stitches. You cold even make it all the same length. Round 1 is a good length if you want to wrap your scarf/cowl around your neck twice for a different look.

Round 1: Ch 100, join with a sl st to 1st ch, sl st in the next 4 chs
Round 2: Ch 95, join with a sl st to 1st sl st of row 1, sl st in next 4 sts
Round 3: Ch 90, join with a sl st to 1st sl st of row 2, sl st in next 4 sts
Round 4: Ch 85, join with a sl st to 1st sl st of row 3, sl st in next 4 sts
Round 5: Ch 80, join with a sl st to 1st sl st of row 4, sl st in next 4 sts
Round 6: Ch 75, join with a sl st to 1st sl st of row 5, sl st in next 4 sts
Round 7: Ch 70, join with a sl st to 1st sl st of row 6, fasten off but leave about 12 inches for sewing.

*Looking at the area of the 5 sl st stitches, fold round 1 to round 7 and sew together to form a tube. (see pictures below for example) Fasten off and weave in ends.

See how easy that was! Here is another great idea! My mom made the one below with three strands of impeccable by Michaels and then added a pin to the sl st 5 area. You could easily add pins make a crochet bow or embellish it in lots of other fun ways! Be creative and have fun!

If you make one I'd love to see! You can link up project on Raverly  (link coming soon) or just share it on my Facebook page!

Enjoy!

Photo-a-day Challenge Dec 2012 - Week 2

Photo a day challenge : Still time to join in. You can find the list here

Want to see week 1?

Week 2

8. Ornaments

We have a small home with large furniture and two small kids, a large and mediums size dogs so we don't have room for a big tree. So I have a few small trees instead that are up high away from little fingers. All the special ornaments are packed away for the future possibilities of having a big tree again someday. So Here is a close up the the kids ornaments. My Sons is a John Deer tree - see that Sweet Tea Ornament from Macalisters ( yeah hubby brought that one home the other day) He loves his sweet tea! My Daughters tree has candy and puppy ornaments :)

9. Something your reading

I was given a large tub full of crafting supplies a few years ago. There was a lot of knitting supplies in there but I don't knit, well not until recently. I am determined to learn more about it. I have some of the basics down. This little book was in there but it's really old and I'm pretty sure and English/UK book.

10. Wrapping Paper

Wrapping paper this year is candy themed. Calleigh was pretty excited but wants to know where I'm hiding the presents? :)

11. Green

My little tree! Hubby bought this shimmering greenery that was for the porch but it kept falling over. I need a planter for it. I just like the sparkles :) It's now taking up space on my kitchen table.

12. A Beautiful Sight

Okay this one is a little corny but I thought it was funny. I was browsing new stuff on Netflixs and came across the fake fireplace. There is even one with some festive Christmas music that I left on while we made krispy treats on Wed. The Kids loved it!

13. Family

Love my babies! They got new jammies for cousin Christmas Pictures.
We got this great shot of my kiddos!

14. Christmas Tree

The kids trees!

I hope you enjoy a peek into our December! We'll be back with more next week!

Tacky Christmas Sweater Project 2012

Ah tis the season of Tacky and Ugly Christmas Sweaters. Okay admit it you have one hiding out in your closet. (mom- I talking to you LOL - I know you do!)  It used to be you could find them easily in thrift stores but some how they became the "it" item around Christmas time for parties and fun! I even saw a news report on how someone turned in into a business. (wow!) They can be kinda expensive just for fun. Did you know that Dec 21st is even National Ugly Sweater Day - Here is the countdown website for it!

So we have annual Christmas party with my Sunday School Class at church (the newly wed/young married couples) It's always fun to see the crazy ideas people come up with. I was determined to win this year (of course we didn't vote this time...haha) but I would have won for creativity and it definitely got attention.

I had lots of Sparkle I Love This Yarn left over from various projects. I started searching for something quick since I only had a a few days and I've never made an actual garment you sew together like a sweater. I came across the perfect pattern. Now don't get me wrong!! I ruined this awesome sweater pattern and it's on my list to make a pretty one because I actually like it!

Here is the pattern I used: Granny Shrug. It's a free and a fun pattern. It works up fast because you use a Q hook and bulky yarn! Now if you make this I recommend a lighter bulky and loose gauge or this will be a heavy sweater. I did double stranded worsted and Q 15.5 hook. It's worked in two pieces and it's a no brainer pattern once you get it going.

So are you ready to see this?

Now I didn't really plan out colors. I started with variegated and then used what I had and until I ran out so you'll notice I end on different colors. The variegated in the armpits is funny to me and didn't really think about it when I started.

Here is me modeling it. haha! So My hubby said it was awful and refused to take my picture so my almost 5 year old took some for me and well I have no head haha!

So I hope I don't offend you if you really like the sweater. It's not all that bad I suppose but you can't see it sparkling with the sparkle yarn and well it's kinda busy! So we'll just call it a tacky sweater. I really am going to make another one. The pattern is great and like I said with the right yarn in a solid and drape it will look better. So what do you think? Honest fun comments below! hehe!

Merry Christmas!

Photo-a-day Challenge- Dec 2012

As this year comes to a close it's been a very busy year with Dec usually being the craziest. I flies by fast and we forget all the good time we've had. I was browsing Pintrest as I usually do late at night before bed and found this photo-a-day challenge. I thought I should do it and you know what here is is Dec 7th and I totally forgot. So instead of leaving out the first 6 days I took some pictures today for all 7. I hope you'll enjoy a glimpse into my Dec.

Day 1: Your view for today

My Son and Hubby sure to love there lego's so we have a big winter scene going on under the kids mini trees. My son has a lego advent calendar and we keeping adding something fun everyday.
What fun things do you see? :)

Day 2: Favorite Holiday Movie

I love Christmas Movies. Three I watch every year are Elf, Christmas with the Kranks, and White Christmas (I couldn't find the case so good thing it's available on Netflixs :) and yes I've already watch all three and will probably do it several more times.

Day 3: Red

I couldn't decide on Red so I choose two because we can't leave out crochet.
I just made some coffee cozy's and I love the red/white one I came up with ( working up the pattern soon) The Red bag hold's Calleigh's Advent gifts of the day. It's full of squinkies which she has to many of already. She love those mini, squishy toys and it's a lot better to step on a rubber squinky than a lego!

Day 4: Joyous

My spending time with the kids bring me joy! Today we've had fun of decorating with foam stickers. We made gingerbread men and christmas trees and they love it.

Day 5: Today's Temperature

Ah the weather in Oklahoma is well unpredictable. It was almost in the 80's on Monday and it will be in the 30s this weekend. We've had a very hot summer and not so cold winter. I really just want a hard freeze. I'm a norther girl at heart and I really love the snow and the cold.

Day 6: Shopping

Well I have a closet full of gifts and didn't want to show you in there. It's a little scary...LOL! So I took a picture of where most of those gifts are found.  I love Target!

Day 7: Bright

Who doesn't love Christmas lights! I love our snowflake lights!

So there you have it the 1st 7 days! I'll see if I can be consistent and do this again through the month!
It's not to late to join in!

Neon Yarn Creations

I don't know how I feel about neons being popular in clothing right now! Reminds me to much of my 80's childhood. Haha! I like warmer jewel tones myself. I discovered Hobby Lobby's I Love This Yarn Neons. The colors are vibrant and the yarn itself seems a little bit softer that their regular worsted which is already great. I think I bought one in almost every color. It comes in Yellow, Pink, Orange, Fuschia, Purple, Green and  Blue!

Here are a few fun things I made over my Thanksgiving vacation!

This hat is a pattern by Speckled Frog Crochet
You can find it here (it's my all time favorite newsboy pattern)
I used the Green Neon and Black to match my sons winter coat. (He loves Green!)

This hat pattern is by a local friend of mine Boomer Beanies
I used the Purple! Calleigh's favorite color! She absolutely loved this hat!
This was my 1st attempt and cables and I was very please with the pattern and the results. I want to make this hat for me. It's just to fun!

This last hat was my inspired by my hubby! He's in the picture above, which he took himself from his cell phone. (Don't tell him I showed you....hehe!) He never models for me.

We're big Thunder Basketball fans around here! So he was excited to see these colors! They are perfect! I had a hard time last year trying to find the right ones! So I hope these stick around for a while! My hubby loves slouchy hats right now. I think I've whipped of several and finally sat down and wrote out the pattern for the slouchy.

You can find it free here in a previous blog post with links to download a pdf if desired

So maybe neons are not for you but maybe step out and try something bright!
I do love these colors and quality! Give it a try!

If you don't crochet I'd love to make you anything you see here in any size! Just contact me through the contact me tab and we'll chat!

What would you make with this yarn?
